Artist statement

Francesco Giuntini’s paintings are marked by a delicate palette and a light, atmospheric haze. On the one hand, this reflects his desire to depict ideal landscapes and figures—images of Beauty; on the other, it emphasizes a romantic lyricism present throughout his work.

At the same time, his brushwork often creates a tangible density of color, producing clear points of light and strong chromatic contrasts.

His subjects range from calm marine or lakeside views to intense portraits of elderly people, young women or children. Certain themes recur: water, as a cathartic element where daily restlessness dissolves into a serene feeling of peace; sails, symbols of airy grace and of a longing for freedom; and masks, elements of mystery and play that reveal a joyful temperament able to temper passion with everyday discipline.

The humanity he portrays—painted without live models and filtered through a powerful imagination, yet enriched by careful realistic details—presents the stages of life: children absorbed in play or wonder, dancers observed with a paternal tenderness, discreet female nudes that convey sensuality without affectation, and finally elderly craftsmen for whom the care of a boat or a fishing net expresses the value of honest work.

His painting, practiced in the intimacy of the studio, highlights the need to bring forth what is within, rather than merely receiving impressions from outside. The open air has been observed earlier and “fixed” like a photographic shot, which the artist later evokes through memory and sensation.
